| I dedicate this webpage to my good friend and admirer - Barry Schiff. We are equal admirers - Barry has been an aviation writer for a long, long time, producing hundreds of books and magazine articles. A career TWA pilot, he has also been a columnist with the AOPA Magazine (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn) for decades. One of his first books was about the Boeing 707, which I bought new when it came out about 1967. ![]() We have corresponded
for quite some years, and he has expressed admiration for my writing and
photography. That's nice, of course, but coming from a "Pro"
makes it especially "Nice." In my airport photo series, he has
queried lack of some TWA images. Well, I only have what I have - I
never set out to avoid TWA. Nevertheless, I thought I'd round up
what I did have and put them on a webpage for his benefit. So,
here they are. Locations and dates are a bit spotty - just my best
guess.

JFK - 1968 LGA - 1968 JFK - 1968 Convair 880 - JFK - 1968 In December 1969, Boeing brought a 747-100 to New York. With an elaborate interior, it hosted a TWA Board of Directors meeting. In-Flight Demo Reception After that event, it ferried to Montreal where it was open for display to future operator Air Canada. Here it is in Montreal (CYUL) on 17 December 1969. It landed on Rwy 6R at Dorval. My wife Dot was working a Nordair flight from Gate 6 - immediately adjacent. She couldn't believe it - NOBODY could believe it!!!! I took Nordair people on to the 747 in the Flight Test Hangar at Boeing Field. It was March 1969. Before we entered the hangar, I told them this was called "The Holy Airplane". They asked "Why"? Then we entered the hangar. Their reaction? JESUS CHRIST!!!!!! "Any other questions, Gentlemen?" I took this in-flight shot during the flight demo. Remember, this was before the 747 had been Certified. Honolulu - 1975 My ambition, back in the late 50s, was to be a TWA Super G pilot. So there! Nothing against TWA. Barry - I hope you like! |
