Bob Mills


MILLS, Robert William 89, of Port Royal, Annapolis Co., passed away December
24, 2008, in Annapolis Community Health Center. Born in Granville Ferry, he
was a son of the late Harry and Emily Mills. Bob joined the Canadian Air
Force (RCAF) in 1940 and got his wings in the spring of 1941 in Brantford,
Ont. He served overseas in Bomber Command for two years flying Wellington
Bombers. He flew 47 operational missions during the Second World War and was
stationed in various locations during this period including England, Cairo,
Malta, Gibralter and the Lybian Desert. On his return to Canada in December
1943, he served as Pilot Instructor for two years in Yarmouth, before
joining Maritime Central Airways, which later merged into Eastern Provincial
Airways, where he was Deputy Chief Pilot. In 1969 he was one of the first
pilots trained on the Boeing 737 where he became a training captain. He
retired in 1980 to live in Port Royal.

He enjoyed woodworking and made many pieces of furniture. Bob also enjoyed Dixieland music and attended several concerts mainly in San Diego and New Orleans. He is survived by his brother, Gerald (Irene) of Kingston; nephews, Eric (Marilyn) of Hammonds Plains; Glenn (Kelly) of Victoriavale; and niece, Michelle (Felix) of Whitecourt, Alta. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Burns and his second wife, Kaye
Bagnal. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach
Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m.
Monday from Gordon Providence United Church, Bridgetown, with Rev. Janis
Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown.
